Will the REAL Recruiters please stand up!

Buzz buzz. This'll be fun. In the middle of the day from hell I had today, my mind drifted to a more secure, happier place, and began to use itself again to think. Unfortunately those thoughts are always that great. I do amuse myself though...Here I am neck deep in URGENT requisitions, you know the kind where the world will end or the company will go broke if I don't find a two toed camel herder with 6 years java development skills. I have my C level executives calling me, wondering where they…See More

Need a promotion? PROMOTE Yourself!

I've spoken before about that success of an HR person, or a Recruitment professional in the corporate world is akin to an umpire in a sporting event. If you don't notice them, then they are doing something right. However, as some of my English friends say.. "Bollocks to that"In the Recruitment world, Agency or Internal, it is a challenge to get that promotion, unless of course you are the last person standing in an agency! I know many people who now run 200+ people contract desks and make a…See More

Offense to defense....It is a weird change of mindset. How does it relate to Recruitment and how do we combat it?My view of the current market I am operating in seems to confuse me from time to time. Job boards are flooded with candidates, taking even longer to get through all the frog kissing. When I get to candidates we want to hire, they at times have a number of other offers to weigh up at the same time.We are using other mediums as well to pro-actively target people we want to attract to…See More

Professional Development

Hi All,Probably a moot point for this forumBut from your experience, I am wondering how many people take time to undertake their own personal development. There are wonderful courses and webinars around the web, and companies like insidejob and CarmenWhite are doing wonderful things, and places like ere.net and lately Thomas Shaw (doing his Facebook and Twitter thang). How many out there actually attend these as their own professional development or do we wait for our managers to send us on a…See More

Don't be seduced with the dream of easy success

Weird times we live in huh?A few months ago, I was sitting in my office, thinking of ways to keep my department relevant. So much time and brain power was used in thinking of ways to keep the Recruiting team out of the firing line (literally) in times when hiring wasn't happening as quickly as it had in the past. I knew it was tough times, but fought hard to keep my team in tact. Not that it was specifically targeted by my company, however I know investors and market analysts asked the question…See More
